Hazel- Year 3 2019 - 2020

Mrs Jones

Welcome to Hazel's (Year 3) Class page!

We are very fortunate to have lots of adults helping us in Hazel Class. Our class teachers are Mrs Jones (Tue-Fri) and Mrs Kelly (Mon). Mr Moss, Mrs Wellings and Mrs Woollen (P4C lessons).

Autumn 1 - Our topic for this half term is 'where our wellies take us' and is based on our English book, Seal Surfer. Linked to this are all our other topics, as shown on our topic maps in the attached files.

Autumn 2 - Our topic for this half term is 'Let it Snow!' which is based on our English book, Winter's Child. We are looking at all things snowy, wintery and, of course, Christmassy! Please see our topic map in the attached files.

Spring 1 - Our topic this half term is 'Rock and Roll'. This is based on our English book, Stone Age Boy. We are linking this with our science and becoming fossil hunters! Please see out topic web in the attached files.

Spring 2 - Our topic this half term is 'Deep, Deep Down'. This is an underwater theme based on our English book, Big Blue Whale. We are enhancing our learning of all things splashing with a class trip to Blue Planet and our swimming lessons! This will help us write our non-chronological reports about sea creatures.

Rewards/ Behaviour

In Year Three, we have Class Dojos. We get these when we are well behaved and when we do great work. It is very exciting to see which monster will have the most points at the end of the week!  We have a mathematician and writer of the week. We also celebrate our readers of the week and a Values Champion - someone who has been a positive role model in the class. All these awards will be handed out in Celebration Assembly on a Friday.

PE will take place on Monday morning.  Please can you ensure your child has their full, named PE kit on PE days which is weather appropriate. We will also be going swimming on Tuesday mornings. Please ensure consent forms are signed and swimming kits and towels are brought in every Tuesday. Written consent will be needed if you wish for your child to wear goggles.

We reward our readers! We ask that children in Year 3 read every night for at least 15 minutes to support their development in reading. We would encourage the children to read a range of different texts. This could range from a magazine to tackling the complex world of a Shakespere tragedy! We reward this effort at home with dojos in class, golden tickets and an extra break on a Friday.

Homework will be handed out every Friday and is due back the following Tuesday. Homework will alternate weekly between English and Maths, with spellings being handed out every week. As times tables are also completed daily, we also encourage children to practise their times tables daily. As such, Times Table Rock Stars have been made available for the class.

If you have any questions, queries or problems please do not hesitate to ask a member of the Hazel team. We're all very much looking forward to an exciting and successful academic year!

Thank you!
